RoboKind Leads the Way to Navigating the Return to Classrooms

Marleigh Gilyard Jan 3, 2024 1:46:53 PM

As the holiday break concludes and students prepare to return to their classrooms, the transition can be challenging. This is especially true for students in special education that might struggle with Self-Regulation skills.

Self-Regulation After a School Break

Self-Regulation, often referred to as Emotional Regulation or Self-Management, is the the ability to control one's thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This essential social skill is paramount for students' academic success, ability to build and develop relationships, and reach individual goals beyond school walls.

Returning to the classroom after an extended break poses unique challenges for students with deficits in Self-Regulation. The shift from the freedom of the holiday break to the structure of the school environment can be overwhelming, and often leads to difficulties with behaviors in the classroom and breakdowns in communication.

Navigating Back to School for Student Success

The Social Skills curriculum is designed to support students in developing this essential skill. Our "Calm Down" Module is integrated into the beginning of the curriculum's scope and sequence.

Understanding the importance of developing Self-Regulation skills, we've released brand new lessons designed to support students with "Calm Down Anywhere" techniques. These strategies empower students to regulate their emotions regardless of the setting, supporting students as they get back in the swing of their classroom routines.
