Back-to-School with RoboKind: Your First 30 Days Guide

Welcome back!

A new school year brings new students, new routines, and new opportunities to build meaningful connections. Whether you're returning to RoboKind or getting started for the first time, a successful implementation starts with predictable routines, engaging instruction, and clear expectations.

This guide will help you prepare your classroom, re-establish student routines, and set your learners up for success from day one.

Before Students Arrive: Your Quick Start Checklist

Join the RoboKind Community!

Connect with other RoboKind teachers by asking questions and sharing stories. Start by sharing a picture of your robot/avatar learning station/area! You can also earn points by various online activities to work your way up on the Community Leaderboard.

Technology Check

  • Confirm your teacher and student devices are charged and updated.

  • Test your RoboKind login credentials.

  • If using a robot, replace the battery (if removed over the summer). Find a spot to charge your robot.

 

Build Routines Before Expectations

We know how important the first days of school are to establish trust and predictability.

RoboKind allows you design consistent routines to help reduce cognitive load, increase engagement, and create a supportive learning environment for all students.

Your First 30 Days at a Glance

Week 1: Introduce and Explore

Goal: Focus on building comfort and familiarity with the RoboQuiz and Introductory Modules so students feel safe, successful, and excited to learn.

  • Complete Social Skills RoboQuiz lessons to demonstrate how to use devices (record their completion using this checklist).
  • Introduce the robot or avatar and model classroom expectations for what participation looks like (the Social Skills Introductory lessons, Calm Down Anywhere lessons, and Safety Drill lessons are a great help here).
  • Explore reinforcement systems.
  • Celebrate participation and effort.

Week 2: Establish Instructional Routines

Goal: Begin introducing targeted lessons so students understand what to expect during RoboKind instruction.

  • Follow a consistent lesson schedule (visit the “General” tab in the Teacher Resources area of RoboKind Central for your visual schedule cutouts of your students' favorite avatars).
  • Introduce one or two learning centers (check out the Social Skills Curriculum and Supplemental Facilitators guides in the Teacher Resources area for hundreds of activities).
  • Practice transitions between activities.
  • Reinforce expected behaviors.
  • Continue modeling and guided practice.

 

Weeks 3–4: Increase Focus on Individual Student Needs

Goal: Expand opportunities for student choice and practice tailored to their individual needs to engage them confidently with learning activities.

  • Add IEP goals to each student in RoboKind Central (Social Skills and/or Phonics)
  • Add additional learning centers.
  • Encourage students to apply skills through the naturalistic practice in the Curriculum Guide.
  • Begin regular progress monitoring in RoboKind Central.
  • Adjust supports based on student needs.
  • Continue reinforcing routines and celebrating growth.
